Welcome to my first tutorial, hopefully this will help out one or two people. I have had a few people ask me how I made mushrooms that were in a wallpaper I made quite a while ago. This tutorial outlines the basic use of metaballs in Bryce 3D 5. They are very fun objects to play around with, so if you don't know how to use them yet, check this tutorial out!
Open a new document in Bryce. On the create tab(1) select to create a metaball(2). Metaballs are spheres that have the ability to morph into one another. Depending on the situation, this can be very beneficial. We want to make a mushroom, so first we are going to have to make the stalk. NOTE: One trick that you may find helpful in this, and any other project you make in Bryce, is the ctrl+click trick. If you have several objects floating around one area it is hard to select the one you want, just hold ctrl and click over the object, this will bring up a menu that you will be able to select your desired object from.

First, select the metaball we just created and hit ctrl+D 5 times. This will duplicate the metaball 5 times. Just select the metaball and move each of the new ones to a different part of the screen until your screen looks like the second picture below.

Now we merely have to align the metaballs the way we want them to look. I choose for my stalk to have a little bend in it. When doing this make sure you utilize the Top View(1) and the Directors View(2) so the balls are properly aligned. They must be fairly close to one another so the stalk doesn't look to bumpy. When you are done it should look something like the picture below. Select them all and apply the flat white texture found in the 'Simple&Fast' material tab. Remember, to group any objects that are selected just press ctrl+g when you have the desired objects highlighted.

Now that we have completed our stalk, we move on to the cap! Click here to go to the next page.
